During any given week, Sirius XM Radio (Nasdaq: SIRI) is among the most actively traded stocks in the country on a share volume basis.

Its allure is obvious. Satellite-radio receivers are common features in new cars, and Sirius XM has cornered the market with last year's merger. The stock also trades for less than a buck, and it's been a real scorcher this year, giving the investment more than mere speculative buzz.

The company has suffered two sequential quarters of subscription declines, but few investors expect that downtrend to continue if the economy -- especially the automotive sector -- improves. Either way, Sirius XM still caters to 18.4 million subscribers. That's an impressive number of people paying for a medium that was completely free a decade ago.

August Auto Sales Should Boost Sirius XM Subscriber

Satwaves
By Brandon Matthews

By Brandon Matthews

The august sales data is in, and one real winner will no doubt be Sirius XM Radio (SIRI). The numbers simply do not lie. The market chooses to focus on year over year numbers when it comes to U.S. auto sales, but for Satellite Radio investors the incremental increases in month to month sales have never been so important, as the subscriber breakeven point seems to hover near the current rate of auto sales. The combined numbers put auto sales on a pace this quarter to exceed 3 million units.

There are two important factors to look at when it comes to Satellite Radio subscriber additions and losses. The first is auto sales data and the second is jobs data. Higher auto sales equates to more promotional subscribers while high job losses equates to higher churn, as more people decide to put their paid satellite radio subscriptions on hold. There is an unknown point in which the two factors can cancel each other out, resulting in zero subscriber growth.

For those that paid attention to the company’s second quarter conference call, Sirius XM Radio C.E.O. Mel Karmazin tipped his hand when he announced that the company had seen positive subscriber growth during the Month of July. The August auto sales data would seem to indicate that the same holds true for August, as sales far outpaced those in the first month of the quarter. Read more…

Fear keeps investors from gains ***** must read

"It's simple math. Once a broad market measure has satisfied several technical criteria -- such as trading above its 12-month average at the end of a month, or having its average price of the past 50 days surpass the value of its average price over the past 200 days -- then it's clear that the psychology of defeat has changed. With you or without you, no matter what you may think of the health of the U.S. economy and no matter whether you think China's strength is real or illusion, a bull market has begun, and new rules go into effect. Anyone who tries to fight the tape at that point will suffer"
Last year's swift, surprising plunge was so scarring that many investors may never look at securities the same way again. But hesitating now could mean that a big rally passes you by.

U-turn is path to recovery profits ***** must Read

"This might seem backward, but it's happened many times in the past. Some of the strongest spans in the market have come during the weakest periods of economic growth. According to the BCA research, here's how it breaks down: Quarters in which growth in gross domestic product has clocked in at a terrible negative 2% to negative 3% have led to the strongest returns in the Standard & Poor's 500 Index ($INX): around 28% on average in the ensuing 12 months. Quarters of negative-2% to negative-1% GDP growth have led to one-year returns of around 19%. Quarters of negative-1% to 0% growth have led to growth of around 8%. Quarters of 1% to 2% growth have led to 2.5% annual returns, and quarters of 2% to 3% growth have led to slightly negative 12-month returns."

Smarter Sponge™”, (OTCBB: SPNG - News) is pleased to announced that the Company has booked approximately $70 million in orders during the first quarter of FY ‘10; having another record month bringing in approximately $29 million in new orders for the month of August compared to July's orders of approximately $23.5 million. As SpongeTech has matured its sales and distribution channels, we can now appreciate a “seasonal effect” on the demand for our specialized products. Our fiscal Q1 which occurs between June and August is typically the timeframe for winter and holiday season pre-orders from retailers. The tremendous growth that the Company is experiencing this quarter has been partially due to increased commercial demand for out complete line of medical and household cleaning products from school systems as well as sporting venues. We feel that this demand is likely in response to the high level of awareness surrounding the upcoming flu season in the northern hemisphere.
